My work for the last 25 years has been about personal pivotal moments and how we navigate them. At my first pivotal moment I was told I only had a slim chance of ever walking again. This is how I beat those odds. And here is what I have learnt that can help in terms of this collective pivotal moment we are in.
This is for when your life appears to disintegrate before your eyes - like all is ending. And you start asking deeper questions as to what you are really meant to be doing next. Not because you want to, but because life is forcing you too.
What I learnt is that pivotal moments are no ordinary crossroads. They are the pause button. They are the forced ending so that you can hear a deeper calling.
In that sense they also hold the seeds of a new beginning. Just not an ordinary new beginning. Definitely not the new beginning you were looking for - and probably not the new beginning you even knew you needed.
What these moments actually call you to, are a new level of your true self, purpose and impact. The bigger the loss, the greater and most profound the next level. Beyond, positive impact, it wants you to come back to who you actually are - really are.
As we now face a collective pivotal moment in the 'for impact' sector - we need to remember that this is not just about looking for the nearest lifeboat. Although we might need to do that in the short term to pay the bills.
What it is actually about is digging deeper to understand what we are truly being called to next - in ourselves. To stop staring horrified at the collapse. And to start to look for the new seed that is inside - and has the blueprint for what wants to be born next.
Because the turning point comes the faster you look for the phoenix that is waiting to rise from the ashes.
